Burkart & Phelan Incorporated is proud to be considered as on of the top American flute manufacturers. The company was founded in 1982 by Lillian Burkart and James Phelan when they were working for Verne Q. Powell Company.
It was originally established to provide outside subcontract services to Powell for the manufacture of piccolos. With their expertise in flute making, design, repair and other services, the Company continued to grow, with Lilian coming out with the Lillian Burkart flute headjoint used for their well crafted professional flutes.
On the other hand, Jim, with his engineering skills, improves the design of every mechanical and acoustic aspect of Burkart instruments. They also came out with a very useful video for repairs and a book dedicated to the workings of the flute. To commemorate their success, Burkart & Phelan launched the Burkart & Phelan Flute in 2003.
